NIT, Kurume College HISTORY

The system of the colleges of technology in Japan was started in 1961 with the amendments to the School Education Acts to comply with the rapid development in the scientific and engineering fields and to meet the demands for young well-qualified engineers. It is a new educational system which aims at giving students thoroughly professional knowledge and cultivate them in such abilities that are deeply needed in their career.

Though all the other colleges of technology were established in and after 1962, the foundation of our college dates as far back as 1939, when a colleges of technology under the old system was born at the same site. This former school was changed into a branch school of College of General Education, Kyushu University by the postwar reformation of educational system, and then again into the present National Institute of Technology, Kurume College after a brief period as an engineering junior college.

Therefore, our college has a long history of more than fifty years and inherits a brilliant tradition. It has an excellent professoriate and has been well-equipped with the latest apparatuses and installations of high quality which can meet the needs of recent technological innovation. The educational environment of our college as a whole may be in no way inferior to that of any four-year university.
